Helen Hannah has done some telephoning to provide this update:
Regaring news about the Falls area from "Michael" at [Taree] NPWS:
*No dogs are allowed to be walked in a Nat. park, or in a Nature Reserve, which the Falls is now.
*No gate is planned to be on this Park
*When it becomes a Nat. Park there will be:
upgrading of the walking tracks
possible camp site to the left hand side of the road going in
signs will be changed
safety checks on the platforms will be done
Also: they will probably collect data about visitation, and may do a landscape plan after that, as they've been told that there was insufficient parking on some days.
About the kiosk: they will be negotiating with the women who own the kiosk, and are aware of the situation of ownership. Kevin Carter (Manager NPWS, Taree) )wants and expects the kiosk to continue working, and it may be good [Michael said] for the kiosk owners to contact Kevin to get an idea of what they can expect and tell him what they want.
A Nat park will give much better protection against mining leases. That's about all. People can contact the Taree Nat. Parks office on 6552 4097.
